3. Pharmacy: The pharmacy should be better staffed than how it is presently. It took me 2 hours to get 2 prescriptions filled when my appointment itself only took me an hour. If it wasn't for the kindliness of the pharmacy staff I would have surely dropped the rating from 3 stars to 2 stars.
I recently moved to Vicksburg, MS and knew that I would need to have my records transferred to the Jackson VA. So I called the Jackson VA hospital and I was told to call and request my medical records from the Little Rock VA hospital to be transferred to the Jackson VA. I was then told by the Little Rock VA hospital that the Jackson VA would have to request the records move from them through internal channels. So I called back to the Jackson VA and spoke to another person and they said the same (refer to #1) and was able to get me on the right track.
2. Staff: If you as a VA employee is disgruntled with your job, ensure that the veterans who are there looking to you for service don't hear your complaints.
3. If you like being on hold, this place is for you.
Though I have yet to make my first visit to the G.V. Montgomery VA Center but I can say a few things for sure.
These people are completely incompetent '. Every member of the staff tries purposely to avoid ,not help or intimidate the patience for just asking questions. This place needs to be close down immediately. It's a discredit to servicemen and a embarrassment for the state of Mississippi.
2. It's difficult at best to get to the right section/person to address your issue(s) due to multiple phone transfers.
EDIT/UPDATE: I attended my first VA appointment at the Jackson, MS VA Hospital and all-in-all it went ok. I can't at this time adjust the 3 star rating that I gave them because there were a couple areas lacking that I thought should've been handled better.
I've got my fingers and toes crossed that I don't have any scheduling issues here in Jackson but my confidence has been shaken a bit to say the least. We'll see :|
1. Security: I know and understand that you have a job to do and it could get dangerous quickly. But you don't have to be pricks to service member when they come through your screening area. IJS
I have never seen a place that is supposed to be taking care of pts be so rude on the telephone. The Audiology Dept employee was the only one out of five different transfers to give me her name when answering the phone. Both the Operator and Patient Advocate answered the phone without acknowledging who they were. As a healthcare provider myself and a 33 year veteran, I would think that these people could be a little more professional on the phone. I was trying to get my Health Records which could not be downloaded on myVet and was unsuccessful in getting anyone to answer the phone in that dept. The operator said my best bet would be to come in and talk to them. Really?? How bout having staff available to answer the phone!!! I can truly see now why the VA gets a bad rap. There is definitely room for improvement hence the 3.5- (actual) stars, but don't let this deter you. There are truly caring and compassionate workers and some amazing veterans behind these walls who Proudly Credit this place with Saving their Lives! I know many veterans who come here just for social visits they feel they receive great care here. Unfortunately, unfavorable experiences will speak more voluminous (as my own have in my past). But I try to be fair. Thus, I hope the review star given will grow to be more reflective of the quality of this institution as a whole rather than an experience with particular person in a particular department. My experience wasn't flawless but as a veteran I'd definitely seek care here.
